Travelling Exhibition about the history of Stazi - The East German Intelligence and Security Service has been from 9 till 31 October 2008 in Dom sindikata in Belgrade. The exhibition was sent by German Government’s Department for documentation of - The East German Intelligence and Security Service.
It was the part of the project Everything is under control which includes two documentary films about the victims of Stazi, and the public debate which happened in Goethe institute in Belgrade. The guest of the project was Ms Marianne Birthler the had of the Department of German Government for documentation of - The East German Intelligence and Security Service. Beside Ms Birthler in debate participated Serbian specialists: head of Belgrade Archive Ms Branka Prpa, and head of Serbian Archive Mr. Milorad Perisic and the Commissioner for information of public importance Mr. Rodoljub Sabic.
The exhibition about the history of Stazi has been sent on the incentive of NGO Document and it was organized and realized by Goethe-Institute in Belgrade.
The reason for making this project is the fact that Serbia has never undertaken a real transformation of secret
security services. Also, it could be heard during the three months of government-formation negotiations this year that the main problem between coalition political parties was control over Security Information agency (BIA). Since the toppling of Milosevic, the need for passing laws on opening secret files, lustration and civil control of security sector has always been talked about, but it has never happened. On top of all this, the name and the activities of the secret police service have been brought in connection with most cases of political murders which happened in Serbia over the last decade, some of them are still not resolved, and some new have appeared recently.
